Hosokawa Micron MD, Professor Iain Crosley, to give nanoscience & nanotechnology lecture at UCLan

Hosokawa Micron Ltd’s Managing Director, Professor Iain Crosley, will be presenting a paper at the University of Central Lancashire’s (UCLan) Jeremiah Horrocks Institute on 5th February 2020.

As an industrial partner of UCLan, Hosokawa Micron is delighted to have been working on the university’s three-year-long ‘Multifunctional Nanoparticles in Cancer Therapy’ project, which comes to an end in March 2020. Professor Crosley is, therefore, honoured to have been afforded the opportunity to talk to UCLan students about nanotechnology in a manufacturing environment.

The first of the Jeremiah Horrocks Institute Seminar Series for 2020, the theme of the paper is the ‘Creation and Application of Advanced Functional Materials in Industry’, a subject of great relevance and importance to Hosokawa Micron’s continued success in the UK’s powder and particle process manufacturing industry.

Hosokawa Micron places great importance on research and development, as well as understanding and meeting the ever-changing needs of the world’s many powder and particle process manufacturing sectors.

By collaborating with academic and industry partners, Hosokawa Micron is able to understand the challenges of finely processing a variety of materials – from the micron to nanometre scale – and how they can and should be handled in a safe environment.

At the heart of Hosokawa Micron’s knowledge and techniques is the work of the Hosokawa Powder Technology Research Institute (HPTRI), established in 1958. As markets evolve to meet the needs of environmental and energy-saving considerations, for example, the requirement for innovative powder and particle processing of a higher and higher standard is paramount, particularly in sectors such as battery technology and electronic devices, medicines, toner technology and functional food processing.

As a leading designer and manufacturer of power and particle processing equipment, the advantages of the institute’s R&D work, combined with our knowledge, techniques and expertise, are consistently utilised for our customers’ benefit, in terms of the services and range of products we offer, which can be ‘off the shelf’ or, more commonly, of a specially created unique design.

Professor Crosley’s experience spans all aspects of industrial-scale powder and nanoparticle processing and the complex challenges that can present themselves in a production scenario. He also plays a prominent role in UK manufacturing’s digital revolution (also known as Industry 4.0), particularly in the north west of England, where Hosokawa Micron is based. Hosokawa Micron’s own intelligent software, Hosokawa Gen4 – integral to the ‘smart factory’ industry formula and developed in collaboration with our technology partners – comprises a dynamic digital toolkit which is integrated into the processing equipment we design and manufacture and utilised for our services, such as contract manufacturing and operational analytics.
